Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
The word “chamomile” comes from the work Greek word χαμαίμηλον (khamaimēlon), meaning ‘earth apple’. The use of chamomile for medicinal uses dates back to the ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians. Found throughout Europe, North Africa and in some parts of Asia, chamomile is commonly used in tea preparations or in capsule form for sleeping problems, relaxation and anxiety and stress relief.
Chamomile is a great natural alternative to treat anxiety and depression. It has anti-anxiety properties that relieve stress. It also helps promote a restful night’s sleep. Chamomile is known to soothe upset stomachs and jangled nerves. It is also used topically to treat minor burns.
